Schindler trams

Series 1-15

Small
SchindlerIn 1956-57 fifteen motorcars (series 1-15) were acquired from Schindler of Pratteln. They were the first with seating not only for the driver, but for the conductor too. However most of their life they were used with one-man operation.

The floors were constructed in a slope: 820 mm high at the front until 560 mm at the back. Only the first bogie did have motors.
In the years 1982-86 these so-called small Schindlers went out of service. The 15 is kept for museum purposes.

Series 231-244

Articulated
SchindlerAlso in 1957 Schindler did deliver fourteen articulated trams (series 231-244). The first and center bogies had motors. Of the second section the floor was constructed in a slope. For this and like the series 1-15, the last bogie (without motors) did have wheels with small diameter.

The articulation was a design by Urbinati. It did give the cars lively riding characteristics.
Most of these cars went out of service in 1985. The 242 is kept for the museum.
