Duewag tramsSeries 251-274 (301-324) & 351-386In 1964-65 more articulated trams were acquired. Of the 60 trams, 24 were single articulated (series 251-274) while 36 were double articulated (series 351-386). The type was a design by Düwag of Düsseldorf, but the front and centre sections were constructed by Werkspoor of Utrecht. The back sections were built by Düwag. In 1975 the 251-274 did receive a centre section (this time from Düwag) too and became, now as series 301-324, equal to the 351-386. In May 1976 the 311, 360 & 362 were painted as "Pop" trams. Later the 301, 302, 319, 358, 359, 363 and 368 followed. Twenty four of the centre sections were transferred to the series 601-635 in the years 1982-86. Of these 22 did originate from the series 301-324. Most of the trams which lost their centre section were still on duty for a short period as single articulated car with their numbers increased by 1000. However in the late eighties almost all of this first generation Düwags were scrapped. Bogies and electric equipment were used to built the series 801-850. The 368, 373 & 385 are stored by the RET for the museum, The 269 (single articulated again) & 367 went to Amsterdam. Series 601-635In 1968-69 another 35 articulated trams of the Düwag type were acquired. Although technically equal to the previous series, they were prepared for one-man operation, had an extra door in the back section and decorating stripes. Numbering was 601-635.About 1982-86 twenty-four articulated trams of the series 601-635 were extended with the centre sections of trams of the series 301-324 and 351-386. Most came from the series 301-324 as of these the centre sections were relative new. The numbers of the double articulated series 600 were increased by 1000. Fifteen of the extended trams were modernized in the mid-nineties, Only three not modernized double articulated trams were retained as reserve. Of the not extended cars one is used for instruction and two are kept by the RET for the museum. One went to Arnhem (Openlucht museum). Two double articulated trams are in Amsterdam. By March 2004 the last trams of the series 1600 were withdrawn from service. In May 2005 10 trams (1601, 1604, 1611, 1612, 1613, 1615, 1618, 1619, 1621 and 1634) went to Braila (Roumenia) Series 651-660In 2001 ten trams of the E1-type were bought second-hand from Vienna to solve the rolling stock shortage. Also two E-type trams were acquired as source for spare parts. The E-type and E1-type were locally made trams of the Duewag design. The former Vienna E1 cars 4751, 4753, 4754, 4758, 4759, 4760 and 4764-4767 received the RET numbers 651-660 while the E cars 4626 & 4629 became 661 & 662. The 651-660 entered service on line 2 on January 7th 2002. The 661-662 were intended to provide spare parts only and never entered service. Since the summer of 2003 these trams went out of service again. With the delivery of the new Citadis trams they are not longer needed. In May 2005 nine trams (651-655 and 657-660) went to Craiova (Roumania) The 656 was already scrapped after an accident. |
