Allan tramsSeries 571-572 (100-101), 102-135 & 1021-1056After World War II new tramcars were acquired. In the design the centre platforms were retained. But the drivers did get seating places and the controllers were not operated directly by hand anymore. The first two cars were bi-directional prototypes, the 571 (later 100) having an electric-pneumatical operation of the controller while the 572 (later 101) was all-electric. These two cars were delivered in 1948.The series 102-135, delivered in 1950/51, became all electric and uni-directional. Both prototypes were also made unidirectional and all-electric. All cars were built by Allan. Although this company already delivered many trams before, "Allan" became the nickname of this type. Together with the new tramcars, also 36 new trailers (series 1021-1056) were ordered. In contrary with the motorcars, these were fully bi-directional. Sometimes they were used behind the older motorcars, but most of the time they were paired with the Allan motorcars with which they shared the nickname. The majority of the "Allans" went out of service around 1970, but about seven combinations of motorcar & trailer were used for about twelve years more. A motorcar and a trailer are kept by the RET for the museum. |
